Fix-It Right Plumbing

Your drain repaired from the inside, before it's too far gone.

When a drain cracks, the old answer was to dig, through the lawn, the driveway, sometimes the floor, to reach the pipe and replace it. Relining fixes it from the inside instead. No trench, no tearing up what's above it, and quicker than a full replacement.

But there's a window. A cracked drain leaks every time it's used, and that water washes away the ground the pipe sits on, so it cracks a little more, leaks a little more, and on it goes until the pipe collapses. Once it's collapsed, relining isn't an option any more and you're back to digging. Getting onto it while there's still a pipe to line is the whole game.

  • $0 call-out
  • Fixed from the inside, no trench across your yard
  • Camera footage before and after
  • Cracks, joints and root entry points sealed
  • 10-year workmanship warranty
  • Fix-It Now - Pay Later: 12 months, nothing to pay

Let us call you

When should we call?
  • No fee for the visit. Pay only if you go ahead
  • Three written quotes before any work starts
  • Licensed plumbers. 10-year workmanship warranty

A new pipe inside the old one

Relining puts a new pipe inside the old one. The damaged drain stays where it is, and a liner set hard inside it seals every crack, joint and root entry along its length. It's done through the openings the drain usually already has, so there's no trench across your yard and no driveway cut up. The drain is fixed where it's broken, from the inside.

Can yours be relined?

Most cracked drains can, if there's still a pipe to line. Cracks, joints that have pulled apart, roots that have got in: a liner seals all of them. What it can't fix is a section that has already collapsed, because there's nothing left to line, and that part has to be dug up and replaced. The camera tells us which you've got. The signs it's time to look: a drain that keeps blocking with roots, a gurgle or a smell that keeps coming back, or a patch of ground over the drain that's sinking or always damp.

Why drains fail

Most people think it's the roots. Roots are what you see: they're what the plumber pulls out of the drain, and they're what gets the blame. But a drain doesn't fail from roots alone. Two things are working on it at once, and each one makes the other worse.

The roots grow back bigger. A root gets into the pipe through a crack or a joint, chasing the water. Cut it out and it grows back, and every time it's cut it grows back bigger. As it thickens, it presses harder on the pipe around it, and the crack it came in through gets wider.

The water is the real wrecker. Every time you flush, shower or run the dishwasher, some of that water escapes through the crack. It soaks into the ground and washes away the bedding the pipe sits on. With nothing holding it up, the pipe cracks further, so more water escapes, so more ground washes away. Nobody sees this part. It happens underground, every day the drain is used, until the pipe has nothing left to sit on and collapses.

That's why just re-cutting the roots makes it worse. It clears the blockage for now, but it leaves the crack, it leaves the water washing the ground away, and the roots come back bigger. It's the cheap and cheerful fix, and it's the one that costs more later, because every month it buys runs the clock down on the pipe, until relining isn't an option any more and the only answer is to dig.

How we reline yours

Every relining job starts the same way: with a camera, not a liner. And you'll know the price of the first step before we touch a thing.

We put a camera down it. The camera shows us every crack, root and joint that's moved along the line, and it shows you too. If a section has collapsed, this is where we find it.

We clean it out. Roots are cut out and the pipe is jetted clean, so the liner sits against the old pipe with nothing in the way.

We line it. A liner soaked in resin goes into the drain and is inflated against the old pipe's walls, where it sets hard: a new pipe inside the old one, sealing the cracks and the joints the roots got in through.

We reopen the branches. Where other pipes join the drain, we cut them back open from the inside.

We show you the finished drain. The camera goes back down so you can see the lined pipe for yourself.

Through all of it, you only ever face one decision at a time. You'll know what the next step costs before it starts, and nothing proceeds until you're ready.

What we'll recommend, and why

Our rule is a simple one: we only recommend work you'll benefit from. If clearing the drain and fixing one fault will do it, that's what we'll recommend. If the camera shows the pipe is cracked along its length, we'll show you the footage and price relining it. If a section has collapsed, we'll tell you straight that relining can't fix that part, and price digging up just that section. If we've noticed something else along the way, we'll show you that too: priced, in priority order, your call at your pace.

We get our job right so that you can keep going with yours.

What it costs

Clearing a drain, relining it and digging up a collapsed section are separate decisions, and we price them that way: you'll know exactly what's being lined, and why, before you decide. Every price is agreed before work starts.

And if the repair has landed at a bad time, Fix-It Now - Pay Later spreads it over 12 months with nothing to pay.

A very positive experience with Fix it Right Plumbing in upgrading both the sewerage and storm water drainage systems with internal moulded pipes inserted within the existing (and degrading) clay pipes. Jarrad was our primary contact and scoped the source of our problem and put forward possible solutions and costs. Richie (the Boss) from Geelong drove up to Canberra with the very sophisticated equipment to do the job. Then the local Canberra crew joined them for the work. The scope of the work from deconstructing a raised rock garden bed and cutting through a concrete path to access the old pipes in addition to the actual plumbing work was done efficiently and reconstructed perfectly. Such pleasant and professional tradesmen. It was a great pleasure to have them do this extremely complicated work for us.

Steve and I recently had Thane from Fix it Right plumbing completely change our 40 + year old stormwater pipe system in our front and backyards ... it was breaking apart and stormwater wasn't flowing to where it should. Thane worked with us for 2 weeks and in that time was helpful, made us aware of what was being done, was polite, hardworking and a credit to the company. We would recommend Thane to anyone needing major plumbing done. Everything was left tidy and all rubbish cleaned up and taken away. Thanks Thane.

Fixit Right turned up on time. I booked via their telephone contact and soon after received all the service details by email. Two other local plumbers were contacted by email query and mobile voice messages but no reply provided. Mitch and Dillon arrived and worked out a quote on the scope of work. This is very efficient and provides the costs before work. Part of the drain solution included contacting ACTEW who were on-site in 30 minutes. That was appreciated by all. Mitch and Dillon also had to manually move about a cubic metre of soil to access the buried storm water and drainage pipes which had been fractured by tree roots. A big day's work (0830 - 5pm). I was kept informed of all the steps and options. Very impressive service. Would hire again.

It was our pleasure to have Thane working on a big job at our place to repair our broken sewer and stormwater pipes. He was always on time, always thinking up the best ways to fix the problems, shared his knowledge and and talked us through what was happening every step of the way. He also liaised with the water supply company who came out to inspect the work and told us his work was excellent. Although it was a huge job, at the end of the work Thane left things in great shape, I'm still amazed he managed to drive the digger through our side gate with just mm to spare! Everyone else at Fix it Right was great to deal with too, including Richard who came out for a couple of days, and Rachel in the office who helped me out. Thanks again for all the hard work.

Tristan did a fantastic job repairing the broken storm water drain pipe. He was very knowledgeable about his work, has great communication skills and is a hard worker. I recently had the pleasure of working with Thane from Fix it Right Plumbing on some major work: a drain reline, sewer redirection, and gas line renewal. These were big, complex jobs, and Thane handled every aspect with skill and professionalism. He was transparent and communicative from the start, taking the time to explain everything in plain language, which I really appreciated. He listened, was patient with every question and concern, and showed genuine care throughout the process. One thing that really stood out was how much he did that he didn’t have to do. Thane took extra steps to help me — not because it was required, but because he clearly cares about doing things properly and supporting his customers. That kind of integrity is rare. He was also extremely tidy and respectful of the space, taking clear pride in the quality of his work. It’s worth noting that this was an expensive job — Fix it Right Plumbing isn’t a budget option. But if you're after someone who does things thoroughly, honestly, and with genuine care, Thane is someone you can trust. He’s a real asset to the company, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

We are very pleased Thane's energy, professionalism and service. Thane primarily and later with his colleague, Richard did an excellent job of replacing our boundary trap and relining our sewage pipes. I can’t say enough great things about Aaron our plumber. I had major water issues on my property in Highton, Geelong. They included blocked and broken storm water drains, problems with retaining wall movement and water pooling in the backyard. And a in ground trampoline pit constantly flooding every time it rained. Aaron used specialised equipment that could visually show me blockages and cracks in the pipes, he was able to isolate all the issues. He was always professional and up front about repairs and cost. I was a little nervous about having trades people on my property as l am a female home owner with special needs children. Aaron was incredibly respectful and conscious of safety at all times. He worked quickly around our schedule, cleaned up each day, and left my property looking great. This was a big surprise considering he had a lot of earth to remove, concreting, and garden beds to dig up. The other great thing about his work is he replanted for me 👏. Aaron was with us for a week, fixing what other plumbers had felt was a too complicated job. His knowledge of water, and landscaping issues is second too none. On the last day of this Job, Aaron surprised the kids with a wonderful light show that he had installed in the now fixed/plumbed trampoline pit. The kids can now jump free from mozzies, and enjoy Aaron’s colourful light display. Aaron did not charge me for this wonderful gift. If you’re a single mum, busy working and caring for vulnerable children, you can feel safe with fix it right plumbing and Aaron on your side. 5 big stars for Aaron ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Landscaping our front yard and required all our old storm water drainage replaced. Daniel was amazing! He explained everything in detail at every step and did a fantastic job. We were working in the yard at the time and he was a great source of knowledge, we were so grateful for all his help. Feels good to know we now have a plumber we can rely on in the future.

Thanks so much Jessie. I loved working in the yard side by side with you guys. I'm even more happy to have fixed your issues before the landscaping went in. I'm so glad you feel you can trust us for all the things you may need in the future. Cheers, Daniel Fix-It Right Plumbing

Thanks Dave for going above and beyond in fixing our broken storm water drain. I was very impressed with the professional response I received from my phone call in (where they asked the right questions to ensure that the right person was sent to do the job) through to Dave’s friendly demeanour, thorough approach to tackling the problem and his clean up afterwards. I will certainly give these guys a call should I need any future plumbing jobs done. Thanks again Justin and Julie

Thanks Justin and Julie for the great review! Make sure you guys watch those medicine balls around the stormwater drains, especially with how thin that bitumen is! Was a pleasure fixing your issue and hope you have no further issues with the ground movement from next door. Cheers, Dave Fix-It Right Plumbing

Chris was punctual, polite and got the job done. He persisted with a stubborn blocked storm water drain which eventually required excavation work. I appreciated that he took the time to explain what he needed to do and showed me the offending piece of damaged, blocked pipe afterwards.

Thanks for your great feedback Serin, Soo glad Chris could get your storm water sorted - he has done lots of storm water work before so it was no stress. Apologies for the late reply, Covid-19 has prevented us from replying on the Google My Business forums

We had a blocked and damaged drain and called Fix it Right Plumbing. Brendan arrived on time and was very helpful and highly experienced. He explained everything clearly and achieved the outcome I was hoping for. Brendan did not leave until everything was perfect and there were no hidden costs which was a relief. I highly recommend Fix it Right Plumbing as they are honest, professional, and achieve great results. I will definitely use them again.

Hi Adele, Thanks for the great review! I'm stoked to hear that you're happy with everything we did and that we could get to the bottom of your blocked drain in East Melbourne. Looking forward to when you get your vanity and we then we can get that powder room looking great for you too. Thanks again & stay safe, Brendan Fix It Right Plumbing

The best time to deal with a cracked drain is while it's still just cracked, while there's still a pipe to line. If your drain has blocked with roots more than once, a camera inspection tells you how far along it is. Fix-It Right Care Plan members get an annual drain inspection: the camera goes down while everything's still working, which is exactly when a crack is easiest to deal with.

The Fix-It Right Care Plan

Areas we service

We reline drains across Melbourne, Geelong, Canberra and Ballarat: same process, same training, same 10-year warranty wherever you are.

Drain relining questions

Can you fix a blocked drain for good?

In most cases, yes. We jet the drain clear, then put a camera down it so we can see what caused the blockage. If the pipe is broken or full of tree roots, we'll show you the footage and give you the options, including relining so you don't need to dig.

Will you have to dig up my yard?

Usually not. Relining is done through the openings your drain already has. The exception is a section that has collapsed: there's no pipe left to line, so that part has to be dug up and replaced.

How do I know if my drain can be relined?

A camera inspection tells us. If the pipe still has its shape, it can usually be lined, even with cracks, joints that have pulled apart and roots in it. If a section has collapsed, that section can't.

Why can't you just cut the roots out again?

We can, and it'll flow for a while. But the roots grow back bigger, and the crack they came in through keeps leaking water into the ground around the pipe, washing away what holds it up. Re-cutting clears the blockage and leaves the problem.

What will it cost?

Every job is priced after the camera has shown us what's there, and before any work starts. Our full pricing is on the What it costs page.

What every job comes with

  • $0 call-out. We come out and look things over. If you don't go ahead, you don't pay.

  • Three written quotes. The first gets you out of trouble, the last takes care of everything the whole-home check found, and there's one in between. All of them are proper fixes.

  • Fixed For Good. Done properly the first time, triple tested before we leave, and backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Fix-It Now - Pay Later

12 months, no interest, nothing to pay

Get it fixed today, on any job, and make your first payment in a year. It's there because a burst pipe doesn't wait for payday, and neither should the repair.

*Eligible jobs. Terms, conditions and credit approval apply.

The same plumber, start to finish

The plumber who comes out and works out what's wrong is the one who fixes it, and he stays with your job from start to finish until it's done properly, top to bottom. We don't send one person to look and another to do the work, and we never pull your plumber off your job to chase the next call. Not many plumbing companies anywhere are that strict about it, and it's why the job gets done right the first time.
