Richie Foster, Fix-It Right Plumbing

Plumbers in Carlton, North Melbourne and Parkville

Carlton and the suburbs just north of the city are some of Melbourne's oldest and most handsome, grand Victorian terraces along leafy streets, the university and hospital precincts, and the Italian heart of Lygon Street. We work right across Carlton, Carlton North, Parkville, Princes Hill and North Melbourne.

The jobs we do around here are mostly taps, leak detection and toilets, the everyday plumbing of a dense inner suburb: street after street of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, period cottages and older apartment blocks, a lot of it well over a hundred years old and much of it rented and lived in hard.

Drains still matter, because the sewer lines under Carlton and its neighbours are some of the oldest in Melbourne. When one blocks in an old terrace, roots in an aging joint are a common cause, so we camera the line and find what's actually behind it rather than just clearing it and seeing you again before long.

A lot of Carlton and Parkville is apartments, student housing and the hospital and university precincts, which bring shared systems, tight access and older infrastructure of their own. We're used to working in them and sorting the problems that come with older inner-city buildings.

Whatever the job, from a blocked drain to a hidden leak or a leaking toilet, we fix the cause, not just the symptom. That's been the Fix-It Right way since Richie started the business in 2007.

Ivana Selvatino
Josh was great - arrived right on time, super friendly and explained everything clearly, showed me a few different solutions at different price points, and identified another issue that I hadn't noticed. About 3 hours of work plus multiple parts was ~ $700, which is a fair price IMHO.
Jayde Lovell
Josh was friendly and helpful, repairing the burst pipe on the spot with no issues. The billing platform may not offer the cheapest of options going around, but the outcome seemed to of high quality with minimal fuss and no hidden costs.

The same plumber, start to finish

The plumber who comes out and works out what's wrong is the one who fixes it, and he stays with your job from start to finish until it's done properly, top to bottom. We don't send one person to look and another to do the work, and we never pull your plumber off your job to chase the next call. Not many plumbing companies anywhere are that strict about it, and it's why the job gets done right the first time.

Carlton plumbing questions

Why do drains block so often around Carlton?

Old sewers and tree roots. Carlton, Carlton North and Parkville have some of the oldest sewer lines in Melbourne and plenty of established street trees, and roots work their way into the old joints. When a drain blocks we camera the line and find the cause rather than just clearing it, so it stays sorted.

Do you work on apartments and terraces around Carlton and Parkville?

Yes, constantly. The inner north is terraces, period homes, older apartment blocks and student housing, often with shared systems, tight access and old pipework. We're used to working in them and sorting the problems that come up.

Who's my water authority in Carlton?

Greater Western Water covers Carlton, Carlton North, Parkville and the inner north. If the issue is at the meter or the sewer connection at the street, that's their responsibility, and we'll help you work out what's yours and what's theirs before any work starts.

My heritage terrace has old drains, can you help without digging it up?

Usually yes. We camera the drain first to see exactly what's going on, and a lot of old-sewer problems can be cleared or relined without major excavation. On heritage homes we work carefully and sort the cause, not just the blockage.

How quickly can you get to Carlton?

The inner north is a regular patch, so Carlton, Carlton North, Parkville, Princes Hill and North Melbourne are all well covered, and we're close across the rest of the inner city too.
