Fix-It Right Plumbing

What it costs

Nobody calls a plumber feeling relaxed about it.

Something's broken, you don't know what it should cost, and you've got no way to check whether the number you're about to hear is fair. So you hope. That's not a good position to be in, and it isn't your fault. Plumbing prices have never been published anywhere you could look them up.

So we've published ours.

All prices include GST.

Is the price right?

Too cheap is as much of a problem as too dear. Here's the band a proper job falls in, and what it means if you're quoted outside it.

Blocked drains

Two drain inspection camera reels and a handheld monitor on gravel, beside an open case holding a camera head and its lead

Clear it and look

  • Under $350 Cleared but never looked at. It's going to block again. And if it is looked at, there's usually extra work pushed to make up for the lost time or the low price. We give you honest advice.

  • $350 to $1,200 Cleared, then a camera to find the cause. At the top end there may be extra work to clear it, like drain alterations or a difficult set up. We make sure you only pay for what you need.

  • Over $1,200 There should definitely be drain alterations or further investigation going on outside of just clearing the drain. If not, you could be overpaying.

Hot water, supplied and installed

A Fix-It Right plumber standing beside a new mains pressure gas storage water heater, still boxed on a sack trolley, outside a brick house

Supplied, installed and taken away

  • Under $3,000 Something's left out. You could be getting a poor quality unit with a substandard installation that is likely not to code and will fail in a short time.

  • $3,000 to $8,000 A good quality unit installed correctly and sized right for your application. Work should be compliant and should last the distance. At the top end of this you'll be getting either a heat pump or a gas instant unit with some upgrades.

  • Over $8,000 Only for a big awkward system or a full custom installation. Ask why. Make sure you have another option to compare to before considering an installation this expensive.

Burst water pipes

Fix-It Right plumber in an excavation beside a burst water pipe

Replace the burst section

  • Under $400 That barely covers getting to the pipe. Either the break was easy to reach or you are paying for a clamp rather than a new section of pipe. Ask which one you are getting.

  • $400 to $1,850 The broken section is cut out, new pipe put in, the line tested and the opening made good. Higher in this band means harder access or more than one break.

  • Over $1,850 Usually the pipe is under a slab, inside a wall, or the whole run needs replacing rather than one section. That can be the right call. Ask why a single repair was ruled out.

Gas leaks

Fix-It Right plumber testing a gas meter with a gas detector

Test the line and fix it

  • Under $450 A gas leak should not be cheap to close out. Under this and you should ask whether the whole line was pressure tested or just the one fitting that smelled.

  • $450 to $1,750 The line is tested, the leak found, the faulty section replaced and the system tested again. Your compliance paperwork should come with it.

  • Over $1,750 Long runs, several appliances, or a line replaced end to end. Ask to see the test results and what actually failed before you agree to a full replacement.

Leak detection

Fix-It Right plumber locating a water leak in a lawn with an acoustic listening device

Locate it and repair it

  • Under $500 Cheap detection usually means guessing. If nobody has put acoustic gear or a camera on it, you are paying someone for their best guess at where to cut.

  • $500 to $2,400 The leak is located properly and then repaired. It is the repair that moves the number, because it depends on what has to come up to reach the pipe.

  • Over $2,400 Slab leaks and reroutes sit here. Ask whether rerouting the pipe costs less than opening the floor, because often it does.

Dripping taps

A dripping chrome kitchen tap

Stop the drip for good

  • Under $300 Fine if it really is a washer or a spindle on tapware worth keeping. If the tapware is old or the pressure is high, a fix at this price tends to be back within the year.

  • $300 to $1,800 Where most tap jobs land, because the drip is usually the symptom. New tapware or a pressure limiting valve costs more than a rebuild and it fixes the cause.

  • Over $1,800 Several outlets, a full bathroom set, or concealed mixers in a tiled wall. Fair enough when that is the job. Worth questioning if it started as one dripping tap.

Toilet leaks

Fix the leak at the toilet

  • Under $300 A quick adjustment, not a new part. Fine if it fixes it, but it won't help a leak at the floor.

  • $300 to $2,000 A cistern service or a new cistern, fitted and tested. The upper end is where the pan comes up and gets reseated, which is the usual fix for a leak you can smell.

  • Over $2,000 A new pan and cistern, or the connection to the drain rebuilt. Ask for a photo of what was found under the pan before you agree to work at this level.

Drain relining

The Fix-It Right relining trailer open at a job with resin drums

Line the damaged drain

  • Under $4,000 Too cheap for a lined drain. Either it is a very short patch or it is not relining at all. Ask what length is being lined and what the warranty covers.

  • $4,000 to $16,400 A liner cured in place over the damaged run, with camera footage before and after. Length and the number of bends drive this price more than anything else.

  • Over $16,400 Long runs, several sections, or relining alongside excavation where the drain has collapsed. Jobs like this genuinely run past $40,000. Get the camera footage and a second opinion.

How we keep the price down

Not slogans. Things that actually take cost out of a job.

  • You're not paying for the drive. Plumbers live near the work and start from home.

  • Usually done in one visit. Vans carry the common parts and get serviced, so leaving mid job for a supplier is the exception.

  • The gear comes with the van. Every plumber carries a jetter, camera and locator, so there's no hire fee and no wait for equipment.

  • Plumbers stay on the road. We train in house and through Nexstar, not by pulling crews off jobs for days.

  • Small office, big team. We've kept the back end lean on purpose, so what you pay goes to the work rather than the overhead.

The cheapest repair is the one you only pay for once

It isn't the first job that hurts. It's the second one, on the same pipe, a year or two later, because by then you're paying for the original repair, the new repair, and whatever the water did in between.

That's why we find out why it broke, not just what broke. Fixed For Good costs more on the day and less over the life of the house.

What every job comes with

  • $0 call-out. We come out and look things over. If you don't go ahead, you don't pay.

  • Three written quotes. The first gets you out of trouble, the last takes care of everything the whole-home check found, and there's one in between. All of them are proper fixes.

  • Fixed For Good. Done properly the first time, triple tested before we leave, and backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Every job

Fix-It Now - Pay Later

12 months, no interest, nothing to pay

Get it fixed today, on any job, and make your first payment in a year. It's there because a burst pipe doesn't wait for payday, and neither should the repair.

*Eligible jobs. Terms, conditions and credit approval apply.

The same plumber, start to finish

The plumber who comes out and works out what's wrong is the one who fixes it, and he stays with your job from start to finish until it's done properly, top to bottom. We don't send one person to look and another to do the work, and we never pull your plumber off your job to chase the next call. Not many plumbing companies anywhere are that strict about it, and it's why the job gets done right the first time.
