Richie Foster, Fix-It Right Plumbing

Plumbers in Kew, Hawthorn and Balwyn

Kew and the suburbs around it are established and leafy, full of large older homes on big blocks. We work across Kew, Hawthorn and Balwyn, and it's an area where the age of the housing really shapes the kind of work we do.

Over the last two years we've done more than 100 jobs around Kew. Blocked drains top the list, with taps and toilets behind. The big mature gardens and period homes mean drains and aging pipework are a regular feature.

Tree roots are a real issue here. In more than a quarter of the blocked drains we clear around Kew, roots have got into the pipe, and we also see a fair number of older clay pipes, which roots find especially easy to get into. We check whether roots or old pipework are behind a blockage, so we fix the actual cause rather than just clearing it.

Whatever the job, from a blocked drain to a hidden leak or a hot water system, we fix the cause, not just the symptom. That's been the Fix-It Right way since Richie started the business in 2007.

The same plumber, start to finish

The plumber who comes out and works out what's wrong is the one who fixes it, and he stays with your job from start to finish until it's done properly, top to bottom. We don't send one person to look and another to do the work, and we never pull your plumber off your job to chase the next call. Not many plumbing companies anywhere are that strict about it, and it's why the job gets done right the first time.

Kew plumbing questions

Why do drains block so often in Kew?

Two reasons that go together: big mature trees and older pipes. More than a quarter of the blocked drains we clear in Kew and Balwyn have tree roots in them, and some of the older homes still have clay pipes that roots get into easily. We check what's actually causing a blockage, because in these streets it's often the pipe itself, not just a one-off clog.

I've got old clay pipes in my Kew home, what are my options?

It's common in the area's older homes. Clay pipes crack and let roots in over time. We can camera the drain to see the condition, and where a pipe's damaged, relining can often repair it from the inside without digging up your garden. We'll show you what we find and talk through the options before anything happens.

Who's my water authority in Kew?

Yarra Valley Water covers Kew, Hawthorn and Balwyn. If the trouble is at the meter or the street connection, that's their responsibility, and we'll help you work out what's yours and what's theirs before any work starts.

How quickly can you get to Kew?

The inner east is a regular patch, so Kew, Hawthorn and Balwyn are well covered, along with Kew East, Hawthorn East and Balwyn North.

Do you do more than drains in Kew?

Plenty. Drains are the most common single job, but most of our work is the everyday stuff: taps, toilets, hot water, leak detection, burst pipes and gas. Whatever the job, we fix the cause, not just the symptom.

What every job comes with

  • $0 call-out. We come out and look things over. If you don't go ahead, you don't pay.
