Ringwood and the suburbs around it sit in Melbourne's leafy outer east, hilly, established and full of mature gardens. We work across Ringwood, Bayswater, Wantirna and Heathmont, and the terrain and tree cover here really shape the kind of jobs we see.
Over the last two years we've done more than 150 jobs around Ringwood. Taps and blocked drains are equally the most common, with leak detection behind. A lot of the homes are brick from the 1960s and 70s, on sloping blocks with clay soils and plenty of trees.
Those trees and older pipes make drains a real feature. More than a quarter of the blocked drains we clear around Ringwood have tree roots in them, and we see a good number of older clay pipes too, which roots get into easily. It's the trees and the pipes together. More than a quarter of the blocked drains we clear in Ringwood and Heathmont have roots in them, and some of the older homes still have clay pipes that roots crack and get into. We check what's actually behind a blockage, because in these hilly, leafy streets it's often the pipe itself.
It's common in the area's 1960s-70s homes. Clay pipes crack with age and ground movement, and roots follow. We can camera the drain to see its condition, and where it's damaged, relining can often repair it from the inside without digging up a sloping garden. We'll show you what we find first.
