Richie Foster, Fix-It Right Plumbing

Plumbers in Gordon, Conder and Banks

Written by us, about the streets we work

Gordon, Conder and Banks make up the Lanyon Valley at the southern end of Tuggeranong, mostly homes built in the 1990s, with Calwell and Theodore a little older. We work right across the valley, and homes this age are at the point where the original hot water systems, taps and pipes start to give out.

Taps are the job we're called to most here, with blocked drains and hot water close behind. The clay soils shrink as they dry out over summer and swell again in winter, which is hard on underground pipes and the joints between them.

Whatever the job, we work out why it happened before we touch it, so the repair holds. Richie built the business on that idea back in 2007.

What actually goes wrong in Gordon homes

Dripping taps in Gordon

Taps rarely fail one at a time in a house this age. In Theodore, Conrad started on one dripping kitchen tap and found taps right through the house needing replacing or servicing. Doing them together cost less than calling us back every few months as each one went.

More on how we fix dripping taps: from a worn washer to a new mixer.

Blocked drains in Gordon

In Conder, Jared's camera found a large break in the sewer shaft under a driveway, with tree roots growing through it. A drain like that keeps blocking however often it's cleared, so we show you the footage and fix the pipe itself.

More on how we clear blocked drains: from a slow sink to a main sewer line.

Hot water in Gordon

A lot of Lanyon Valley homes are on their first or second hot water system. In Banks, Josh replaced one that was swinging in temperature and slow to reach the taps. In Theodore, Gerry changed over an old electric unit while the kitchen sink and vanity were being done, so it was one visit instead of two.

More on our hot water work: repairs, replacements and new systems.

Burst pipes in Gordon

Not every burst is under the house. In Calwell, Josh found mice had chewed through an evaporative cooler line in the roof, and water was filling the roof space. The split line was found and replaced, so the cooler could go back on.

More on how we fix burst pipes: from a split under the floor to a pipe in the wall.

What local customers say

Real customers from around Gordon, in their own words

Had Josh from Fix it Right plumbing come out to check our hot water system. He did a thorough check of the house in general, gave plenty of options for the various issues we were having, was honest and clear with pricing and the work to be done. It was a pleasure to have him work on my home.

The same plumber, start to finish

The plumber who comes out and works out what's wrong is the one who fixes it, and they stay with your job from start to finish until it's done properly, top to bottom. We don't send one person to look and another to do the work, and we never pull your plumber off your job to chase the next call. Not many plumbing companies anywhere are that strict about it, and it's why the job gets done right the first time.

Gordon plumbing questions

Straight answers, no runaround

Who looks after the water and sewer in Gordon?

Icon Water runs the water and sewer network across the Lanyon Valley. Anything from the meter out to the street main is their responsibility; inside your boundary it's yours, and we'll be clear about which is which before any work begins.

Do you cover Calwell and Theodore as well?

Yes. Calwell and Theodore are part of this page along with Gordon, Conder and Banks, and our Canberra plumbers work right across them.

My home is from the 1990s. What should I keep an eye on?

The original hot water system, if it's still there, and the taps, which are usually the first things to go at this age. A slow drain that keeps coming back is worth a camera check too, because the clay soils here are hard on underground pipes.
