Hawthorn is a mix of grand Victorian and Edwardian homes, interwar flats, and the units and student apartments that fill the streets around Glenferrie and Swinburne. We work right across Hawthorn and Hawthorn East, and the age of the building usually decides what kind of job it is.
Toilets, blocked drains and hot water are the jobs we're called to most here. In the older homes it's often original pipework that has finally had enough. In the apartments it's usually a leak that has turned up in someone else's ceiling, and the job is finding where it started.

What actually goes wrong in Hawthorn homes
A running toilet is easy to ignore until the water bill arrives. In Hawthorn, Conrad found faulty valves letting water run into the bowl around the clock, swapped them out with the tired kitchen and bathroom tapware, and added a valve to bring the house pressure down so the new parts last.

In an apartment, a leak you can't find is a leak your neighbours will find for you. In Hawthorn, Thane traced water pooling under a kitchen to the drain, the washing machine hose and the sink mixer. On another job, Lachie pressure tested the lines, found them watertight, and traced the water to a tap, so that was all that needed fixing.
