Fix-It Right Plumbing

Emergency Plumber Canberra

Plumbing trouble rarely waits for a good time, and in Canberra a burst pipe or a dead hot water system on a freezing night is about as bad as it gets. This page is here to help you deal with it right now, and to get one of our plumbers onto it. We've done more than 2,000 jobs across the territory, so wherever you are in Canberra, we're a local team.

Why call Fix-It Right

  • The same plumber from start to finish. The plumber who works out what's wrong is the one who fixes it, and he stays on your job until it's done properly.

  • Your call's always answered, day or night, so you're never left leaving a message into the void at 2am.

  • We carry the common parts and hot water systems on the vans, so a lot of urgent jobs get sorted on the first visit.

  • We find the actual cause, not just patch the symptom, so it stays fixed.

  • Licensed ACT 20211237 and fully insured, and backed by our 10-year workmanship guarantee.

  • A local team you'll see often around Canberra, not a call-centre handing you around.

What to do right now

While you get a plumber onto it, a few quick things can stop a bad problem getting worse. Only do what's safe and easy to reach.

  • Burst or badly leaking pipe: turn the water off at your mains meter, usually at the front boundary of the property. Then open a tap or two to drain the line and take the pressure off. Here's how to turn your water off if you're not sure.

  • Smell of gas: don't touch any light or power switches, open doors and windows, turn the gas off at the meter if you can reach it safely, get everyone outside, and call your gas provider's faults line.

  • Water near power, or coming through the ceiling: stay well clear, switch the power off at the board only if it's safe and dry to reach, and don't touch any wet electrical fittings.

  • Overflowing drain or toilet: stop running water and flushing, and keep people and pets away from any waste water until it's sorted.

  • No hot water: if it's a gas unit and you can smell gas, treat it as a gas problem above. Otherwise it's safe to leave until we get to you.

Common urgent problems, and what we do

These are the urgent jobs we're called out to most, and what we do about each one.

Burst or leaking pipe

We find where it's actually coming from, isolate it and repair or replace the run properly rather than taping over it. If it's done damage, we help you work out the next steps. While you wait, keep the water off at the meter.

No hot water

We work out whether it's a repair or a replacement, and because we carry the common hot water systems on the vans, if yours can't be fixed we can usually have a new one in and running the same day, sized to your household.

Blocked or overflowing drain

We camera the line to find what's actually behind it, roots, a collapse or a blockage, then clear it and tell you what caused it so it doesn't keep happening. While you wait, stop using water through that drain.

Gas leak or gas smell

Safety first, so follow the steps above and call your gas provider's faults line. We're licensed for gas work and can find and fix the fault once the area's safe.

Hidden leak or water damage

A leak you can hear but can't see, or a water bill that's jumped, we use leak detection to find it without pulling your home apart, then fix the cause.

Getting a plumber onto it

We'll be straight with you. We can't promise a plumber on your doorstep in twenty minutes, and we'd rather tell you that than over-promise and let you down. What we can do is this: your call's answered any time, day or night, so you're never left leaving a message into the void at 2am. We'll take your details, work out how urgent it really is, and get you booked for the next available plumber, with urgent jobs pushed to the front of the queue.

The same plumber, start to finish

The plumber who comes out and works out what's wrong is the one who fixes it, and they stay with your job from start to finish until it's done properly, top to bottom. We don't send one person to look and another to do the work, and we never pull your plumber off your job to chase the next call. Not many plumbing companies anywhere are that strict about it, and it's why the job gets done right the first time.
